Lotor walked into Haggar's lab, looking for a poison his father had ordered from the witch. He needed it to kill some rebels. The poison would cause a very painful death, perfect to make an example of dissidents. He had planned to ask Haggar where she kept the poison, but she wasn't in her room. The one thing he found was a cauldron with some liquid in it. He didn't know what it was, but knowing Haggar, it was evil. He decided that taking a sample to use against his enemies would be a great idea. It might even help him in finally defeating the Voltron Force.
He filled a small bottle, not enough for Haggar to notice that anything was missing, and left again, planning to later ask her for the poison. With her not labelling the bottles, it would be too risky to take the wrong one. And his father would blame him, not Haggar, for the mistake.

On planet Arus, Lotor lay in waiting for the Voltron Force to appear. He had brought Haggar's creation and planned to drug Keith with it. He just needed a good opportunity. His chance came when the pilots left their lions to investigate the explosion he had set off to get them out of the castle. The way of delivery might be childish, but efficient. He aimed carefully and threw a water balloon filled with tainted water at Keith. It hit perfectly. Of course, the group looked for the source of the balloon, but he kept hidden, wanting to stay undiscovered.
The problem was, nothing happened, except for his hated enemy cursing at getting wet. This wasn't going to plan. He decided to wait, perhaps the stuff was time-delayed.

~*~*~*~
After two hours, nothing had happened and Lotor had enough. He left his hideout and attacked the Voltron Force while they were away from their lions. Sadly, it wasn't to be and his robeast was destroyed again. Why couldn't Haggar make one that worked? He returned to Doom to complain about the uselessness of her brew to Haggar.
"You used that on Keith? I wonder what kind of secrets he told others. It wasn't a poison, Prince Lotor, it was a truth potion. A powerful one at that," Haggar revealed, "It will make the one drinking it spill their deepest secrets."
"Why would you make that instead of something evil?"
"Do you know how useful it is in interrogating prisoners?"
Lotor had to admit she had a point. When he went to the throne room, his father looked at Lotor with a look that screamed pity.
"Ah, Lotor, I have to tell you some bad news."
"What is it, father?"
"Your quest for Princess Allura is over. Planet Arus has just announced her engagement. It's all over the news."
"What? Who?" Lotor raged.
"The Voltron commander. Seems he confessed his feelings to her and she agreed to marry him."
Lotor blanched. Had the truth potion forced Keith to confess? It would make sense. He swore he wouldn't let that stand.

Hunk ventured into the liquor store filled with spirits from all corners of the universe and was accosted by its vendor- an old man with a knack for knowing what you wanted before you did- and offered him a small flask of stainless steel carrying a beverage that gave you a personalized overload of the senses with just one shot and it was alcohol free!
For example, if you had a craving for tequila, the drink tasted like tequila. Or if you wanted to drink whiskey, you could swear the beverage was whiskey. Most surprisingly it worked as a temporary truth potion, albeit a mere ten minutes.
Grinning, Hunk bought it for the team's upcoming poker game.
He grabbed shot glasses and poured to his friends, then poured himself a glass to dispel suspicion. He passed them around his friends who accepted his offering. Pidge said that soon he would be able to drink like his friends, consoling himself with a Coke.
Keith sniffed at the drink, and then downed it with a singles toss. "God!" he muttered. "This tequila tastes great."
Sven downed his own drink, and smiled. "Keit, this is aquavit, with its distinctive herbs and spices."
Keith frowned at him. "You know tequila is my drink of choice. And this is definitely tequila."
Lance downed his shot. "You guys," he coughed. "This is sake!"
They turned to Hunk who took a moderate sip. "Tastes like gin," he said appreciatively and then drank the rest. "Top notch."
"That's odd," Pidge said.
"Where did you get this, Hunk?" Sven asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Yeah," Lance said suspiciously. "What gives?"
"All in good time," he replied, checking his watch. "The princesses will be here shortly."
"The princesses?" Keith and Sven gasped in unison.
Lance smirked. "We could play strip poker," he said wickedly. "I've always wonder if they use silk underwear."
"Shut up, Lance!"
He blinked. "What? Do you think cotton?"
The tension increased tenfold the instant the women appeared. Keith hoped he was not bright red like his suit. Sven felt the heat of the midnight sun flaring across his cheeks. Something was wrong; they had the sudden urge to tell the truth.
Then Hunk pounced.
"Keith, are you in love with Princess?"
"Yes," he said roughly, his fingers entwining themselves with hers. "I love you, Allura."
When the princess absorbed the intensity in his voice and saw the love in his eyes, she could not help it. She burst into tears. He loved her!
"Keith, I love you too!"
"Sven," Hunk said, "do you love princess Romelle?"
"Ja," he said fervently. "I love you, Romelle. I'm sorry I almost ruined this. I just felt I was not good enough."
"And I love you, Sven," she whispered. "Gods, it took long enough to realize it!"
Wide-eyed, Pidge said, "What brought this on?"
"Allow me to explain," Hunk said, grabbing the empty flask. "I thought you guys needed a little help admitting your feelings, so I got this truth potion..."

"Drink up, Keith," Lance coaxed, pushing the glass of clear, red liquid toward his captain.
Keith eyed the beverage warily, not quite trusting his friend. "What is it?"
"Just some berry juice," Lance responded, not meeting Keith's gaze. He picked up a second glass and took a long sip. "See? It's good."
Keith frowned, but picked up the tumbler, sniffing at its contents before taking a cautious swallow. The juice was sweet, yet tangy and crisp and it left a trail of warmth behind it. Keith narrowed his eyes at Lance for a moment as the heat spread to his stomach. "This isn't just berry juice, Lance," he accused, more resignation than menace behind his words.
"Well it's fermented a bit, but it's still berry juice," Lance hedged. "I thought you needed something to take the edge off," he continued, sloshing his own drink around in his glass.
Keith sipped again, the alcohol quickly dissolving his normal inhibitions. Within minutes, his glass was nearly empty and Lance, grinning broadly, all too willingly refilled it. The second glass quickly followed the first and as the third began disappearing Lance steered the conversation to the Arusian princess.
"You know I love her, don't you, Lance?" Keith asked quietly and Lance wasn't sure if it was an accusation or a confession. "From the day we met her…"
Lance nodded, his eyes moving briefly from his captain to a corner of the room and back again. "We all love her," he responded. "She's a loveable person."
"No, not like that Lance. Not like a friend. Not even like family." He shook his head, dark hair falling into his face. "I love her, Lance. As in L-O-V-E love. Y'know hearts and flowers and all that," Keith's eyes drifted back to the remaining liquid in his glass, his words seemingly directed at it. "This is turning into the hardest mission I've ever been on."
"It doesn't have to be that hard, Keith," Lance said gently, rising slowly. Keith didn't look up when another shadow replaced his friend's, assuming he'd retaken his seat.
"Of course it does. It's not like I can just tell her that I love her."
"Why not?" a feminine voice asked softly. "She happens to love you, too."
Keith's head shot up, panic taking hold. "A-Allura!"
She smiled tenderly at him and reached across the table, her hands grasping his.
Lance stood outside the doorway with Pidge and two of the castle's resident space mice. "See? I told you. Alcohol is like a truth potion for him. We just had to time her arrival right."
Pidge nodded, turning to the mice. "Alright, you did your part and got her here on time. Meet me after dinner and you'll have your cheese."
Cheddar and Mousie exchanged glances then shook their heads and made sighing noises while batting their eyelashes.
"I guess you weren't the only one tired of them avoiding the subject, Lance," Pidge laughed as the four of them left; their work done.

"She got away, Lance." Hunk squinted at the tracks ending suddenly at a rectangular patch of flattened grass. "Looks like this is where the coffin ship landed."
"Damn," Lance growled. "I was hoping to send a missile up her -"
"Hey, watch it." Hunk straightened and cast a wary look around. "Let's check out the area before we leave."
The two men searched the clearing carefully. Lance stopped and looked down when his foot kicked something small and metallic. He squatted to retrieve the tiny vial, turned it over in his hands. His gaze fell on the words etched into it, and a slow smile crossed his lips. Hunk arrived just as he pocketed it.
"Find anything?" Hunk asked.
Lance shook his head.
"Me neither. Time to report back."
They returned to the castle.

"Well, according to our orbital support, Hagar has left the planet." Keith sighed and dragged a finger across the digital tablet in front of him. "What a pain in the ass. I sure wish she'd just stay the hell under whatever rock she came from."
The room fell silent. All eyes were on the Voltron Commander. Keith raised his head and stared back.
"What?"
"Umm...Captain?" Pidge's eyes were wide. "You want to rephrase that, maybe?"
"Okay..." Keith paused in thought. "I can't stand that withered old bat and I agree that Lance should have sent a couple missiles up her -"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Hunk waved his hands frantically. "Chief, maybe you should take a break. I think the stress is gettin' to ya."
Keith made a face. "Stress? You want to talk about stress? See that gorgeous blonde babe over there?" He nodded in Princess Allura's direction. "Give me forty-five minutes alone with her and I could change her disposition for the better. But I can't lay a finger on her. You know why. So I have to settle for quietly lusting after her from a distance. Now that is stress."
Pidge turned a healthy shade of red. Lance was grinning ear to ear. Hunk took note of it from the corner of his eye. Allura fidgeted with the pen she held in her hands.
"Forty-five minutes...?" she said, blushing prettily.
"Give or take five," Keith replied with a smirk.
"I'd like to see you try," she replied loftily.
"And I would certainly love to try." Keith said, his gaze still fixed on Allura. He waved a hand in the direction of the others. "Team dismissed."
Hunk, Pidge and Lance left the room. Pidge was aghast.
"I wonder what brought that on?" He mused aloud.
"Truth potion," Lance replied. "Hagar must have dropped it when she ran."
"Aha!" Hunk pointed a finger at Lance. "So you did find something in the clearing!"
Lance nodded. "Yep."
"And you used it on Keith?"
"Only after testing it on myself first."
"How long will it last?"
"No idea."
"Looks like we'll have a very interesting report to turn in, then." Hunk dragged Lance away by the arm.

The multitude of caves crisscrossing beneath the foundation of the Castle of Lions had been used by its inhabitants as a make-shift basement for many years. The tunnels and caverns had served as a means of escape, and shelter, for many an Arussian. Today, it was mostly used for storage; its cool and dry caves stored clothing, furniture, and foodstuffs, while the damper caves were used for the aging of things like honey-mead, and cheese.
The past few months, Nanny and Allura had been systematically searching through each underground chamber, setting aside items that could be used, or recycled, and having the things that were beyond repair taken above ground and discarded.
There were two rooms left in the tunnel they were currently excavating; one they found was empty, while the other had been a storage space used exclusively by Allura's late mother.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" The Royal Governess felt a deep ache for her ward. "I can sort through her things myself and have anything of interest brought up to you."
"I appreciate your concern, Nanny," Allura smiled poignantly. "I want to do this, it's important to me."
"Very well, child," she opened the door. "Let's get started."
About an hour later, Allura carried a large stack of books out of the room and set them on a cart for items that would be going back upstairs. As she re-entered the room, she made her way to Nanny's side.
"My mother seemed to have a great interest in botany," the princess said. "All of those books were on the subject."
"Oh yes," Nanny agreed. "She loved plants, flowers, gardening. . .she was also a talented herbalist."
"An herbalist? I didn't know that."
"Come," Nanny moved to a nearby table that was stacked with small chests and crates. "I found some soaps and perfumes she made."
Curious, Allura began uncorking some of the small bottles, taking cautious sniffs of their contents. Some were soft, sweet floral aromas, some spicy scents, while a few others had obviously spoiled. An amber colored bottle caught her eye, she reached for it - it smelled like lemongrass, patchouli, and something she wasn't able to identify. Turning the bottle over, she read aloud.
"Sincerity. . .A spritz behind each ear, truth and honesty will be all you hear."
"Oh, I remember that stuff," Nanny chuckled. "Your mother swore it was the ultimate truth potion. She said if a lady was wearing it, her fellow could tell her no lies."
"Did it work?" Allura laughed nervously.
"The ladies in the court seemed to believe so." Nanny turned back to the box she was digging through before adding in a dismissive tone, "I always thought it a bit of silly, but harmless nonsense."
When Allura was sure Nanny was no longer watching, she slipped the bottle into her pocket, and smiled impishly. She knew just who she was going to test the truth potion out on… Lucky Keith.

Contrary to what most people thought, life in space was far from silent. The engines of a starship hummed a constant melody so low that it was felt more than heard. Scientific instruments and computer systems beeped and chirped merrily along.
It was no wonder, Ginger Gregory mused, that Space Explorers could not bring themselves to relax when it was quiet. Silence was bad. The last time she had experienced a quiet this absolute was when her Falcon VT Fighter's engines died and she found herself separated from her team, adrift in contested space.
Her current predicament was just as dangerous but there was absolutely nothing she or Hawkins could do. They were within the same chain of command, with Mitch as a superior officer. The Garrison Uniform Code of Justice was quite detailed in its discussion of fraternization… and well, what happened definitely fell within the bounds of improper sexual conduct.
It hadn't been easy to ignore the mutual attraction but she and Mitch had managed… until Ceti IV. It was there, on an Away Team mission with Krik and Cinda that she and Mitch encountered Apep, a native drink that had a strange effect on humans. It was a powerful aphrodisiac that might as well have been a truth potion. It forced them to accept what they had spent years denying.
What's done was done, Ginger reminded herself. She and Mitch were committed to each other now, no matter what the Ethics Committee ruled. She looked over at him, standing stoically by the window and caught him watching her. Despite the precariousness of their situation, Mitch shot her a reassuring smile, reminding her of their agreement. Love was worth it, no matter the cost to their careers.
An orderly opened the door and interrupted anything she might have said. "Commander Hawkins and Lieutenant Gregory? Please follow me." They exchanged quick glances; hers worried, his reassuring; before squaring their shoulders and following the orderly into the conference room.
Instead of the battalion of flag officers Ginger expected, the only occupant of the room was an exquisitely dressed blonde woman. She dismissed the orderly with an imperious wave before greeting them. "God morgen."
Mitch bowed slightly. "Your Highness. Sven is surprisingly effusive when he talks about you."
"I have heard much about both of you. Now, I have arranged for all charges against you to be dismissed, if you agree to be seconded to the Arusian Royal Army. Hawk, we need your tactical skills in Castle Control. And Ginger, Sven and Allura think that you would be perfect for Blue."
Ginger and Mitch exchanged glances. There were no regulations against fraternization on Arus. He nodded, his grin widening. She turned to the Princess. "When do we leave?"
The smile that bloomed on Romelle's face made her resemblance to Allura even more striking. "Immediately, for Keith's peace of mind. Only the family-- and the Force is family! -- knows, but Allura is with child. I'm going to be an Aunt!"

The gingerbread brown cottage with sugar sprinkled shingles and fanciful white trim was nestled in the middle of a clearing deep in the thick Altean forest. Two Voltron pilots stood in the front, gazing at it, and wondering if their mission was about to bear fruit or end as a fool's errand.
"This is the place, according to my GPS coordinates." Hunk announced.
"Looks like something Hansel and Gretel would run across." Pidge remarked. "Maybe we should have left a trail of bread crumbs back to our lions?"
"Too bad it's not made of gingerbread, could go for some edibles right now." Hunk rubbed his growling stomach.
"We're here to get truth potion." Pidge reminded him. "The sage that lives here is a recluse. I emailed him, and I'm surprised he even agreed to see us, so don't be asking for food. We're only halfway through our list-if we don't get this item, Lance wins for sure!"
"Fine." The big man grumbled. "But I'm putting in a suggestion with the Princess for the next 'Get to know Planet Arus' scavenger hunt to take us to places with buffets and snacks."
Pidge pointed. "The door is opening! Looks like he saw us!"
"Great, let's go!"
Hunk started forward, then came to an abrupt stop as a rolled up piece of parchment came zinging out the cottage door.
"What the he-"
His exclamation was cut off by the scroll smacking him in the face.
An amplified ancient sounding voice thundered into the clearing, shaking the birds out of the trees.
"You come seeking truth! Truth is always what you make of it! Now begone!"
The door slammed shut. In the total silence that followed, Pidge bent down to collect the scroll.
Unrolling it, he held it up and started to read, then he began to grin. "I get it- 'what you make of it!' is a recipe for truth potion, we can make it, and- HEY!" he protested, as his companion grabbed the parchment.
"That gleam in your eye tells me I best keep this for now." Hunk told him firmly. "Besides, If we're gonna win this hunt, we gotta get going! You with me?"
Pidge grimaced. "Yeah, I'm with you."
The two pilots walked away, unaware that a chuckling old man was watching them from a frosted cottage window.

"This is amazing!"
Allura held up the scroll and perused it with avid interest, then beamed at the two lion pilots."You actually tracked down the reclusive Sage of Altea and got a rare item!"
"Pidge gets all the credit for setting it up," Hunk told her."I just found the place."
"It actually wasn't all that hard." The Green Lion pilot said, looking proud and self conscious. "Even if he's not chatty in real life, he's surprisingly active on social media...and, um, it seems he's a big fan of yours, Princess. Could I possibly have you to autograph a pic for him as a thank you?"
Allura clapped her hands. "An excellent idea! I'll write him a thank you note myself and send it by courier."
Pidge grinned. "Thank you!"
"Be sure to tell whoever gets the delivery job to duck when the door opens." Hunk muttered.
"Again, great teamwork by everyone!" Allura exclaimed. "Congratulations, Hunk and Pidge, you've won the challenge cup back from Keith and Lance." She handed over a silver chalice.
"Sweet!" Pidge said.
"You guys should be disqualified!" Lance declared. "A recipe for a truth potion is not the actual thing! Right Keith?"
"Agreed." The Black Lion pilot said with a smirk. "It's the equivalent of drawing a picture of an item instead of actually procuring it."
"You're just sore 'cause we beat you!" Hunk scoffed. "Even without the truth potion, we got one more item than you!"
"Also questionable!" Keith shot back. "One faded tea towel with King Alfor's likeness from the castle pantry isn't a find!"
"That's right!" Lance said. "We had the perfect item, but the village didn't want us to uproot the statue they'd carved from a huge old tree! By your standards, we should have just taken a picture!"
"Well they do say a picture lasts longer." Hunk retorted. "Not our fault you couldn't be innovative."
"I'll give you innovation..." Lance growled.
"I think there's a important point being missed here." Allura interjected, with a firmness that brought silence. "The purpose of this hunt is to have fun while seeing little parts of my world that you'd never notice otherwise, and giving me the pleasure of hearing about your discoveries! Did that happen?"
She smiled at the abashed male chorus of 'yes, Princess'. "Then we are all winners, especially since the kitchen staff has prepared an excellent buffet. Are you ready to eat?"
With an enthusiastic affirmative they departed, but Pidge hung back.
"If you don't mind me asking, what are you going to do with the truth potion recipe, Princess?"
Allura looked thoughtful. "For now, it's going in a safe. You never know when it might come in handy."
