Allura knew that she should have been sorry for tempting the boys like this. But she hadn't expected them to react this strongly to her question. Even Keith had been pulled into this frenzy, even if he was basically bullied into participating by Lance. The reason? Lance, Pidge and Hunk had gushed about Christmas on Earth and what kind of treats were always made for the festive season. She had been curious and asked which kind of treats were the best ones. That started an argument among the boys, who all favoured different treats. Perhaps it was caused by being from different countries. Perhaps it was their different upbringing, but the result was the same. They had decided to set up a competition to find the best treat.
Nanny wasn't happy at all to have to let them use the castle kitchen for their competition. She feared it would need hours of cleaning up the mess the boys would make. Nanny was convinced that men couldn't be trusted inside the kitchen outside of basic assistance jobs. Now each of the four male members of the Voltron Force had one oven at his disposal and the whole afternoon until dinner, meaning four hours, to finish their creations. They had all collected their necessary ingredients and were ready at the starting signal.
Coran was the one to remind them of the rules, and then their time started. The boys started measuring ingredients at their spots while sometimes boasting to the others. Well, that were mostly Lance and Pidge.

~*~*~*~
The time was up and Allura, Coran and Nanny were designated as judges to the baking efforts of the boys.
"Now, what did you make, Hunk?" asked Coran, looking at the baked goods in front of Hunk, who had won the draw to go first in presenting his work.
"This is a specialty from my grandmother's home country. Stollen. She always made it for Christmas and served it with butter and cups of hot chocolate," explained Hunk proudly.
Hunk cut three slices off the stollen and served it with a small piece of butter each. The three judges tried it and nodded as it being tasty.
"It's well done," approved Nanny, "This could be served for a nice tea party."
That was high praise from Nanny. Hunk grinned.
Next up was Pidge.
"I made mince pies. My great-grandfather brought this tradition to Balto from his home country on Earth," explained Pidge.
The three judges tried a pie each and Nanny coughed while Allura had to force herself to swallow her piece.
"Does it have to have this much alcohol?" asked Nanny.
"I followed the recipe I got from home," replied Pidge.
The three nodded, but it was clear that the pies didn't fare as well as Hunk's stollen.
Then Lance was up.
"I present you my gingerbread house!" he announced proudly.
He had created a small house with white icing representing snow on the roof. It looked quite nice.
"It certainly is visually pleasing," nodded Coran.
Lance broke off some parts of the fence to let them try. When they chewed, Nanny frowned.
"This is much different to the gingerbread we know on Arus. I don't know any version that tasted like pumpkin," she commented.
"Pumpkin?" asked Lance confused.
Then he looked at his ingredients and blanched.
"Oh no, I confused the spices. I used pumpkin spice instead of gingerbread spice," he groaned.
"Well, while it might not be like gingerbread, it is tasty," commented Allura.
Lance tried a piece himself and nodded.
"Perhaps better suited for Halloween than Christmas, but it is tasty," agreed Lance, even if he was disappointed at the mistake.
Last up was Keith.
"I kept this easy. The one type of biscuits I always liked for Christmas was cinnamon stars. Though I adjusted the recipe a little and covered them with chocolate instead of sugar icing, as we never did that at home, as my aunt hated sugar icing," explained Keith.
The three nodded and took a star each. Their faces showed that they liked it.
"It had a nice balance of sweetness and the spices," said Coran.
"I like that it isn't overly sweet. That's a problem with many biscuits and cookies," added Nanny.
"The chocolate frosting is great," approved Allura and took a second one, "It certainly suits the cinnamon."
Now that they had tried all treats, they needed to rank them to finish the competition. Finally, Allura stepped forward, with Coran and Nanny next to her.
"We have decided. Fourth place goes to Pidge's mince pies. They had too much alcohol for our liking. Third place goes to Lance's pumpkin house. Second and first place were harder to decide, as both the cinnamon stars and the stollen were great. But with two against one vote second place goes to Hunk and first place to Keith," announced Allura.
Hunk looked a bit disappointed but accepted it. Keith was surprised that his fairly simple biscuit had won. Still, he enjoyed the praise he got.
